BOOK LAB

Where Motor Sports Meets Luxury Hospitality. Fuji Speedway Hotel offers an unrivaled experience where the excitement of motorsports converges with luxurious amenities and impeccable service.

Since 2023, “Book Lab” has been exploring the possibilities of artists’ books by experimenting with design thinking, materiality, and printing to challenge the traditional narrative-driven structure of books. This year, Book Lab celebrates paper as both a vessel for ideas and a vibrant artistic medium in its own right. Additionally, it will place a special focus on "photographic artists’ books," exploring how this medium transcends conventional photography, linear narratives, and fixed forms to engage with the diverse, rapid, and fluid nature of contemporary imagery. Upcoming programmes on making and reading will launch later this year:

01. A talk by Singapore Art Book Fair Director Renée Ting, sharing insights on the relationship between artists’ books, book fairs, and the city / 02. A masterclass on dummy books led by Berlin-based artist Claudia de la Torre / 03. Sharing and workshop by local printing industry practitioners Colham Printing, Printing Room, SpectrArt HK Fine Art Print, flip & roll, examining sustainability across the printing industry / 04. A reading group hosted by Hong Kong book designer Renatus Wu, analysing books through the lens of readability. / 05. A workshop co-organised with the local hand-binding studio Fai Gor Workshop, introducing basic techniques and methods for binding dummy books. / 06. Exhibiting featuring photographic artists' books and bookmaking resources at WMA Reference Library and More unfolding soon.

A wordmark featuring micrographics that nod to the finesse of printmaking, each stamp a gentle mark of craft. Gradients with spatial depth and textures lifted from Hong Kong’s streets anchor the identity in place, then pull it apart. It’s design as a process: define, deconstruct, reinterpret, reframing paper space as something both local and limitless.

Texture scanned on location in the streets of Hong Kong, all textures used in the project were captured in situ, providing authentic, depth and realism rooted in the urban environment of HK.
